GRAND BLANC, Mich. – The Ally Challenge presented by McLaren announced today that eight-time PGA TOUR Champions winner Steve Stricker, major championship winners Mark O’Meara and Mike Weir, and Charles Schwab Cup Standings leader Steven Alker, are set to compete in the fifth edition of the official PGA TOUR Champions event scheduled for the week of August 22–28 at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club in Grand Blanc, Mich.
Stricker, 55, has enjoyed an impressive PGA TOUR Champions record since joining the senior circuit in 2017, after recording 12 wins on the PGA TOUR. Of his eight wins as a senior, Stricker has four major championship titles. He has also finished runner up eight times and generated 35 top-10 finishes over 42 starts. Additionally, Stricker is committed to showcasing the game on a global stage. He served as the U.S. Ryder Cup Team Captain last year when the Americans rolled to a record-setting victory at Whistling Straits in his home state of Wisconsin. This came just four years after Stricker captained the winning U.S. Presidents Cup team in 2017 at Liberty National Golf Course in Jersey City, N.J. In 2012, Stricker was named the recipient of the Payne Stewart Award, presented annually to a player sharing Stewart's respect for the traditions of the game, his commitment to uphold the game's heritage of charitable support and his professional and meticulous presentation of himself and the sport through his conduct.
On the PGA TOUR, Stricker competed at Warwick Hills four times in the Buick Open, with his best effort a T-6 in 1998. This will be Stricker’s first appearance at The Ally Challenge presented by McLaren. He has produced six top-10 finishes this season in seven starts, including a victory at the Regions Tradition. Stricker is currently fifth in the Charles Schwab Cup points standings.
O’Meara’s professional resume includes two major championships among his 16 PGA TOUR victories, and a senior major (Bridgestone SENIOR PLAYERS Championship) to go along with two other PGA TOUR Champions titles. The 65-year-old Houston resident won the Masters Tournament and The Open Championship in 1998. Since his PGA TOUR Champions debut in 2007, the Ally Ambassador has garnered nearly $10 million in earnings, with 63 top-10 finishes. O’Meara, who was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2015, will be making his fifth start at The Ally Challenge this month. His scoring average at Warwick Hills is 70.42 and his best finish came in 2018 with a T-3 outing.
Weir, 52, made his PGA TOUR Champions debut at the 2020 Ally Challenge presented by McLaren with a T-27 finish. He recorded his best senior finish at Warwick Hills last year with a T-10 effort. His tournament scoring average is 69.33. The Canadian native earned his first PGA TOUR Champions victory at the 2021 Insperity Invitational and has grabbed 13 top-10 finishes over 40 starts. Weir counts the 2003 Masters Tournament among his eight PGA TOUR titles. The left-hander has been a member of five Presidents Cup teams, and in 2009 received the Order of Canada, his country’s highest civilian honor—and was inducted into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame.
Alker, 51, made his PGA TOUR Champions debut in August of 2021 and went on to finish in the top-10 in nine of his 10 starts last year, including a victory in the Charles Schwab Cup playoffs at the TimberTech Championship. He earned a solo third-place finish at The Ally Challenge in his second ever senior start. Alker is enjoying a career year in his sophomore campaign with three wins, including his first senior major at the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship. With 10 top-10 finishes over 13 starts, the New Zealand native currently sits atop the Charles Schwab Cup Standings, a position he has held for the past 14 weeks straight.
The Ally Challenge will be one of the premier Regular Season events on the PGA TOUR Champions in 2022, which will give way to the Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs¾a season-ending, three-tournament series used to determine the TOUR’s season-long champion.
All three rounds of The Ally Challenge presented by McLaren will be broadcast on Golf Channel.
